Last meeting of 2014

Notes from Meeting of the 10th December 2014

Galway Toastmasters club held its final meeting of 2014 on Wednesday 10th December. Several of our members were on holiday and the weather was unpleasant so our numbers were lower than usual. Almost everyone in the room was on the agenda.

At the top table was myself as ‘acting president’ for the night. Stephen C was Toastmaster and Ann K was Topicsmaster.

The officers of the night were:
  • Trevor F as Ah Counter
  • Thomas L as Grammarian
  • Patsy as Timekeeper
  • Aisling C as Gen Evaluator
  • Donal L Creative Corner

Speeches
We had four prepared speeches, three from the Competent Communicator manual and one from an advanced manual.
  • Huaxing gave his Icebreaker speech telling us about his home in China and his personal philosophy.
  • Eddie talked about the exciting developments in technology and possible future developments from Google.
  • Pat O’D spoke passionately about the abuses uncovered in an Irish care home.
  • RĂșairĂ spoke about the connection between golf and Toastmasters in his life.
Evaluations
The evaluators for our speeches were:
  • Joseph
  • Pat C
  • Catherine L
  • Majella
Aisling gave a General Evaluation and even evaluated part of her own evaluation.

Our Creative Corner was a poem by Robert Frost  and read by Mary.
