Light a Spark

Galway Toastmasters club met on Wednesday 29th April.

Our Toastmaster for the night was Ellen. Daniel counted our Ahs and Frances kept time.  Our Grammarian was Pat O’D who offered us the word ‘Presently’.

Our Topicsmaster was Ruairí.  Topics ranged from the changes to the leaving cert points system to being asked to sell a bottle of water to the audience.

We had three speeches, two from members of our own club, and one from the winner of our division final.

Mary delivered her CC3 on the fascinating topic of ageism, explaining what it is and why it is so detrimental.  Ann gave her CC10, asking that we appreciate light in our lives by showing us beautiful images she had captured with her camera.  Finally, Máire, delivered her winning speech on what it takes to bring an idea from inspiration to fruition.

We had a guest also from Tuam Toastmasters club to talk to us about Cruinniú, a Toastmasters meeting hosted by Tuam Toastmasters on the 14th May.

We also had a guest visiting the club from the USA. Her name was Britain and at the end of the meeting she stood and spoke about being involved in her Toastmasters club, one of the oldest in the world.

Our Creative Corner was delivered by Joseph and he read us ‘Song of a Demonstrator’ by Roger Lindley.

Máire will be representing the district in Nottingham on May.  In her speech she spoke about her charity Dip in the Nip. You can read more about it here.
