The final Toastmasters meeting before the Summer break was brilliant as always.
Aisling chose execute as the word of the day and everybody executed the perfect plan to use the word execute as much as possible to break the record for the most time a word of the day has been used.
The record stood at 22 and we smashed that with it being used a whopping 37 times!!
Cormac started off the Topicsmaster session with a Dr. Evil impression and some great questions. Aisling Courtney did a great Mrs.Doyle impression of “go on! go on!” and we used the word execute more then even Mrs. Doyle would say the phrase “Go on” in an episode of Fr. Ted.
The first speech by Eugene, ‘The Invisible Contract’ taught us about the invisible contract that exists between not only employees and employers but also volunteers. He taught us how we need to facilitate and help volunteers. Volunteers may be doing things voluntarily but they also want and expect to be treated in a certain way.
Aisling taught us about being a mentor and role model in her speech ‘The Consultant, Councillor and Cheerleader’. It was an enlightening speech where we learned how her academic mentor helped motivate her to finish her thesis. She also managed to use no filler words during her speech!!
The third speech by Sebastian was about adapting in the constantly changing world that we live in, especially during the Corona Virus, and how we can embrace change.
The final speech, by Jenny Doyle ‘The Passport on the Prague Express’, was a great laugh as we learned of Jenny and her friends Erasmus train ride from Germany to Prague. In typical Irish fashion three of them didn’t realise they would need their passports to get across the border.
The meeting ended with a lovely piece of calm with a guided meditation by Marie Scully.
Thanks to everyone for an amazing welcome to the club this year and an even bigger thanks to everyone who volunteers their time to make this happen. See you all after the break.
