The first meeting of the new season of Galway
Toastmasters took place on the 1st of September on Zoom.
Our President Eugene opened the meeting and welcomed
us all.
Toastmaster Pat then introduced the various
roles for the evening.
Christoffer was the meeting housekeeper and he
provided an explanation for best practice etiquette for online meetings.
Aisling had the role of the grammarian for the
evening and her role was to introduce us to the word of the evening which was
‘benevolent’. Her role also involved listening out for descriptive language
used throughout the evening.
The ‘ah’ counter role was filled by Declan. His role
involved listening out for ‘filler’ words such as ‘um’, ‘ah’ and ‘am’ that were
used throughout the meeting.
The timekeeper role was filled by Jenny who had to
monitor the length of the speeches, evaluations and the contributions during
‘Topics Session’.
Máire’s role was the ‘Creative Corner’ which always
features at the end of the meeting.
Pat Coakley double jobbed for the evening as both
Toastmaster and General Evaluator.
The ‘Topics Session’ began with Eugene in the role
of Topicsmaster. Some very interesting topics were discussed including:
favourite place to visit in Ireland, favourite childhood memory of summer,
favourite city to take a hot air balloon ride.
Our first speech of the evening was given by Niamh. This was an ice-breaker speech. Niamh provided a very relatable,
interesting and humorous speech about different elements in her life.
Frances opened her speech with a
Shakespeare quote. She presented a very thorough speech about the pathways
journey of personal development in Toastmasters.
We then had a tea break and our meeting resumed with
evaluators Martin and Eugene providing feedback to Niamh and Frances.
The officers provided reports about their findings
throughout the evening.
Máire, in her role as Creative Corner provided us
with a slideshow of quotes about creativity and motivation. A lovely end to the evening!
Roles for the next meeting were filled and our
meeting ended!
Next Toastmasters meeting is on Wednesday, 15th
September.
All are welcome! J
