Connections, Nominations, Kindness, and Connemaras

We had a great meeting on February 5th last with four great speeches. We were in one of the smaller rooms so there was not as much space as we might have liked, but it worked out just fine.

Tony started the talks with a fantastic speech about ‘Life connections’, he even discovered more connections between members during the meeting. This was a Stage 2 speech, focusing on the organisation of the speech.
We then had two Stage 3 speeches, their objectives were to have a strong point to the speech. Pat spoke very entertainingly about the topical subject of Social media and Neknoninations and then Emer spoke sincerely about The treasure within and being kind to people. Both well thought out speeches, well presented and with a strong message.
The fourth speech was a non-manual speech by Tom, one of our longest serving members. His speech titled Connemaras was about his hobby, model soldiers. He spoke with the passion of the seven year old boy he was when he first started collecting, as he enthralled us about his hobby and introduced his impressive collection. It was both a history and a geography lesson, encompassed in a witty and engaging speech.

Joseph gave us a delightful and amusing poem about an unlikely subject; the suffering of Vegetables for our dietary needs. It nearly turned us all into pure carnivores!

There was a good turnout of members and some guests, who all enjoyed the evening.

Our next meeting will be held on 19th February 2014 at 8.30pm in the Menlo Park Hotel, Galway.
