Dunking Biscuits and Making Healthy Brown Bread!

This week, we have two posts written by different members, about the same meeting, held on Wednesday 4th March, 2015.

Our meeting started at 8.30pm with a warm welcome from Margaret our President. We were delighted to have eight guests this evening, we hope that they will return to a second meeting soon.

Our Toastmaster Astrid was an excellent host and she introduced all of our officers. Donal (our Ah-Counter) named and shamed us very accurately tonight! Ivica, (our Timekeeper) did as great job as did Jon, who completed the Creative Corner by selecting a famous poem by W.B. Yeats. Trevor (our Grammarian) introduced the word of the evening and ‘Protagonist’ was used several times.

We had a brilliant topics session. Frank prepared a very varied and humorous selection of topics. They covered very divisive issues such as whether or not we dunk biscuits in our tea! Favourite modes of transport/TV shows were also included. We talked about travelling and the places we will not return to, how to spend €10K in a day and reviews of the movie Oscar winning ‘Birdman’

The prepared speeches were well written and very entertaining.

Thomas spoke about IT advances and the impact they have on humanity. We were encouraged to reflect on the current and future implications of technological advances, such as 3D printing and drones.

Ann gave an excellent speech on choices and decision making. She explained the history of the well known phrase ‘Take it or Leave it’ and she used great examples of decisions we made with our hearts and our heads. We also got great tips on making decisions too.

Patsy gave a very informative speech on Transition Year using a powerpoint presentation. He explained the program and the many benefits of completing it, both socially and academically.

Cathryn concluded the prepared speeches with an excellent demonstration on how to bake healthy brown bread. She inspired us all to try it with a fantastic selection of props, a recipe to take home and samples her delicious brown bread that she made earlier.

After the break, the evaluations by were completed by: Stephen, Aisling, Jenny and Margaret. All evaluators gave positive feedback with constructive recommendations.

After the evaluations the officers gave their reports.

Gary, our General Evaluator gave lots of positive, constructive feedback about tonihgt’s meeting.

Margaret concluded the meeting at 10.30pm. We were also reminded that Competition Night will take place on the 1st of April. We had a really enjoyable night as always and I can’t wait for our next meeting on the 18th of March!
