Silence is Golden?

Our third meeting of the year began on time and once again, with some new faces and a seamless flow of interesting topics and speeches. The President opened the meeting by welcoming all and soon after passed us over to Frances, for her duty of Toastmaster.
At this point Frances requested that our team of officers introduce themselves and their role.  What felt like barely a couple of minutes, our Topicsmaster, Astrid engaged every person in the room by jumping from topic to topic with many hands in the air to add an opinion.
There were a total of four speeches on the night, all of which were inspiring in their own individual way. Paddy led with a speech titled ‘1916 is Tricky’ and left us with one reason why it doesn’t have to be oh so tricky!
Doireann captured the audience’s attention with her speech, ‘The Wrongness of Me’ and maintained this for the entirety of the speech.
We then were taken on a mystical journey by Ann who persuaded us to look up more and informed us on the solar system.

The last speech of the night was more of a thriller and had the audience on the edge of their seat. Rob gave a speech, ‘Silence is Golden, Sometimes’ which was the story of a near death experience whilst taking a plane journey. He set the scene with added sound effects and truly moved the audience.
Our night ended with positive evaluations and reports from all officers including the general evaluator. Another night of entertainment and inspiration from the Galway Toastmasters Club, thank you!

  1. The ultimate tragedy is not the oppression and cruelty by the bad people but the silence over that by the good people. See the link below for more info.
