Galway Toastmaster Meeting of 28th May was another night of learning and fun.
After a warm encouraging welcome by Brian our AGM was conducted with aplomb by Kathy. All committee roles were filled with Michael walking himself into a role. There was discussion about looking for a more central location. We are staying put for the present. It was decided to run our meetings through the summer, a first for Galway Toastmasters.
Then the normal meeting our Toastmaster Pat introduced the various roles and then Paul took over for a short Topics session. Topics ranged from holidays to chores.
We then had a humorous speech Writing a speech with Purpose. Dion with great humour and thoughtfulness brought us through what that meant.
Then on a serious note Kathy gave a passionate speech on the difficulties faced by autistic girls and the dangers of not having sufficient diagnosis and supports in place. Kathy is campaigning for quiet but inclusive spaces for these children who take in 42% more information than others. “When we know better we do better”
The break was lively and Chocolate Digestives to celebrate 100 years of Digestives plus a box of chocolates. We were spoiled.
Then came the second part with two very helpful and encouraging evaluations from Helen and Mark, officer reports and a lovely Creative Corner where Maud had us filling in sentences.
Brian filled the agenda for the next meeting and gave very appropriate comments on the growth of members over the year.
