Galway Toastmasters - 26th November 2025 - Hobbies, Dreams and Comfort Zones

 

The meeting was opened by Warren, who welcomed members and guests and set the tone for an engaging and well-structured session.

Francis followed by introducing the meeting roles, outlining their purpose and helping members understand how each role contributes to the smooth running of the meeting. Killian, acting as Topicsmaster, then described his role and explained how the Table Topics session would be conducted.

The Table Topics session was lively and well-participated, encouraging members to speak spontaneously on a variety of engaging themes.

Topic: Hobbies

  • Pat R spoke about his weekends, which include hill walking, sailing, and raising children around Galway Bay.
  • Patrick shared his interests such as parkruns, sauna visits, and family days. He also spoke about arriving early to Inis Oírr, enjoying music while cleaning the house, and making a gourmet tart.
  • Ian spoke about farming and reflected on how he wished he had learned farming skills earlier in life.
  • Ali discussed the importance of communication skills and financial literacy.
  • Louise talked about not following the status quo and shared her experience of changing jobs.

Topic: Living in Any Country

  • Warren shared his experience of living in the United States for over five years, having grown up in Connemara.
  • Francis spoke about Australia.
  • Connie chose Lanzarote.
  • Sinéad spoke about Madeira, describing it as slow-paced and relaxed.

Topic: A Time You Stepped Out of Your Comfort Zone

  • Niamh shared her career transition from accountant to IT professional.
  • Helen spoke about starting a new job in Lidl.

Three prepared speeches were delivered:

  • Robert presented “Running Down a Dream.”
  • Pat R delivered “Mentoring and Me.”
  • Warren presented “When We Speak.”

A short tea break followed the prepared speeches, allowing members to socialise and recharge before the evaluation session.

The evaluation session was led by Francis, who acted as General Evaluator and provided an overview of the evaluations.

Creative Corner was delivered by Ian, who ran a fun and engaging “shop game,” where members went around the room trying to remember what previous participants had bought.

Closing and Additional Items

  • Warren assigned roles for the next meeting.
  • Ian read out his best man speech.
  • Warren announced that the next meeting will be Christmas-themed and asked members to bring a €10 Secret Santa gift.
  • Cliona, a guest, introduced herself to the club.

The meeting concluded on a positive and festive note, with strong participation and a variety of engaging contributions from members and guests.
