World History, Warriors, First Aiders and High Technology

Last night at Galway Toastmasters we had an unsual and interesting topics session led by RuairĂ. He gave us each a topic as we came in the door with the instructions that we might be asked to speak and that we couldn't show our topic to anyone.  When he took the podium RuairĂ then told us that we each had a person, place or thing and we had to talk about it for two minutes without naming it. The audience would then have a chance to guess. Topics ranged from Plato, to The Wizard of Oz, to Boris Yeltzin and Pamella Anderson.

We heard four speeches, all from the Competent Communicator manual. Donal (stage 2) gave us "a history of the world in five minutes", Stephen (stage 2) told us about the Terracota Warriors of China. Jenny (stage 5) told us about the Order of Malta and encouraged us all to take a first aid course. Finally Pat (stage 8) told us about the relationship between new technologies and the perception of magic.

Our Toastmaster last night was Pat.  The Creative Corner poem was presented by (another) Pat, inspiring us to live life fully. Finally our General Evaluator for the night was Margaret who reminded us of the importance of time keeping.

Our next meeting will be held on the 5th of March. Guests are always very welcome.
