Our last meeting, on the 5th March, was a largely light-hearted, always interesting jaunt through a multitude of subjects.
Margaret opened the meeting and stepped into the breach as Toastmaster. During a most enjoyable topics session, Gary had us finishing short stories, mulling over how to spend a lottery win, packing for a desert island and giving sometimes poignant advice to our ten-year-old selves.
- Blanaid stepped up with an engaging icebreaker taking us on a whirlwind trip through southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand.
- Ann followed with a stage-3 speech which thoughtfully examined the factors at play in personal confrontations, their effects and possible responses.
- Aisling's evocative stage-4 speech, entitled "Ride the Wave" had us living the exhilaration and exhaustion of surfing.
- In an ATM Bronze presentation "Turandot" Ruairi brought us, via a World Cup anthem "Nessun Dorma", to the haunting story behind Puccini's famous opera.
After the break and constructive evaluations from Emer, John, Ellen and Rita, Will treated us to the Macumba (magic) of words in Aimé Césaire's poetry from Martinique.
Finally, following Pat's general evaluation, Margaret rounded up a most enjoyable evening.
