Small Room, Big Speakers

Our meeting of the the 2nd April was held in a smaller than usual room of the Menlo Park Hotel. This posed a few logistical challenges - where to put the lectern, lights, top table etc.

Pat was Toastmaster for the first time and did a wonderful job co-ordinating the transitions between speeches and navigating the challenges of being in a different room.

Emer was Topicsmaster and led us through a wonderfully light hearted but meaningful session with topics ranging from growing up, to the merits of reading for children and our own guilty pleasures.

We had four speakers. Aonghus stepped to the lectern for the first time in a club meeting with his ice breaker. We learned a lot about him and his interests in life. Tony gave us a stage 3 on the range of services provided to improve the home safety of elderly people in Galway. Joe gave us a stage 4 speech on aspects of Chinese history. Finally, Paul told us a comedy story from the Storytelling manual.

At the end of each meeting we have a Creative Corner, usually a poem.  Tonight, Francis read us The Charge of the Light Brigade by Lord Tennyson.

Our next meeting will be held on Wednesday the 16th April at 8.30pm in the Menlo Park Hotel. Guests are especially welcome to attend.
