Sun, sand and the sea! - 23 November 2016

Galway Toastmasters Meeting Wednesday 23 Nov 2016

The meeting was opened by Pat who welcomed members and guests alike and swiftly introduced Margaret as our Toastmaster. The first speech was an Educational Speech “Evaluate to motivate” given by Pat Coakley. Pat noted that evaluations give feedback to both speaker & evaluator. Benefits include:
-       - Immediate feedback after tea break (which  is our special Galway treat!)
-       - Methods for improving.
-       - It builds and maintains self-esteem.

We then had the Topics session conducted by Francis.  She had a lovely selection of topics from the most memorable Christmas gift and cooking lesson to the Mayor’s driver’s expenses.

It was followed by an Ice breaker by Gearoid, its title was “Embrace the struggle” a very brave account of a business venture. An amazing speech which was well received and deserved a big round of applause.  Trevor followed with a Stage 4 speech which was titled “Ambitions” in which he spoke about his passion for his agriculture business. Astrid’s speech was about travel impressions from a recent holiday.  The last prepared speech was by Martin, who spoke about “Domestic Violence” he gave some statistics and also help line numbers.  The tea break followed where it is always nice to catch up with the other members.

Donal, our General Evaluator called on our officers with their reports. Tim, our grammarian, who had introduced the word “Dithyramb”, reported that it was used an impressive five time by Margaret! Tom in the creative corner read a lovely poem entitled September 1913 by W.B.Yeats.

He handed the meeting back to Pat who announced our Christmas party details for Wednesday, December 21st. Between now and then, our next meeting is on December 7th at 20.15 pm!
