Francis, our ‘sergeant at arms’, welcomed us all at the door to our first meeting of 2019. Our meeting started on time which was opened by our president Sarah. She took us on her journey through toastmasters, explaining how everyone has their own story for joining. It’s very often a moment lost in time where a few words would have been appropriate and memorable. It’s there we take out first step on this fantastic journey to Toastmasters!

We had an
exciting topics session, reflecting on the past year and welcoming in the new
one. Everything from the standout moments in 2018 to what was the worst present
you ever got and then on to our New year’s resolutions. Moving into 2019 we
will be learning from the lessons of others, focusing on the positive and being
more content with life. Some will even push the boundaries and reach the base
camp of Mount Everest this year.
It was then
time for our tea break and a chat.
On return
our prepared speeches were evaluated. Each speaker was given positive feedback
on their speech and something to work on for their next one. Then on to our
reports for the evening from our Ah counter and Grammarian. Our creative corner
was from Marie with a poem called ‘Don’t quit’.
Roles for
our next meeting were filled and it was agreed that our meetings going forward
will start at 8pm. Our next meeting is on Wednesday 23 January, all are welcome
and we hope to see you then!
