Galway Toastmaster Club goes Online!

Online and Hybrid Teaching Training Opportunities - Tech'd Out ...Congratulations are due to the club for holding their first online meeting last Wednesday 25th March 2020! It was a very enjoyable meeting, despite a few teething problems.  Sadly, Danny could not get online and his icebreaker speech was postponed until next week. Declan our President introduced the meeting with a few words of welcome.  The meeting was then taken over by our Toastmaster Christoffer who introduced officers with roles. Ashling the Ah counter and on-the-spot volunteer Mohammed who with   chose the word of the night Zoom. Our timekeeper Martin showed the cards for timing speeches and a rattle for timing the Topics.  Topics should have been next but Topicsmaster Frances could not be heard so we moved on to the prepared speeches!

Margaret gave her speech titled “Across Platforms” which showed that she was comfortable moving with the technical times. She was animated and used gestures and even stood up to deliver her speech which on this new platform was impressive!
Pat then gave a speech titled “Prepare to Speak Professionally”.  Pat gave a great insight into the Pathways programme and how to access the paths.

Still lacking sound from Frances we went for a cuppa and imaginary biscuits!Custard biscuits - Cooking with my kids

The second half of the meeting was hosted by Jenny. Frances had sent a copy of the topics to Marie who ran a lively topics session with lots of participation, great teamwork! Next, the evaluations of the speeches by Marie and Declan who gave great encouragement and helpful hints. Then the officers’ reports; one person used Zoom three times and our Ah counter pointed out so and inappropriate pauses as fillers.

Jenny then evaluated the evaluators and gave good feedback. This was followed by a very lively creative corner with audience participation by Cormac – the king of rap!  Then Jenny evaluated the evaluators and her view on the meeting.  Eugene filled roles for the next meeting and it was back to Declan to close a very successful maiden online meeting.

The Galway Toastmasters are fully online, come join the fun!
