A Laugh to Remember

Our Humorous Speech Contest on the 1st of October, in Galway Toastmasters Club, was a great opportunity to enjoy the charms of public speaking.

We were all welcomed with a friendly smile from our sergeant at arms. It was a special evening which brought us all together, in laughter and enjoyment, to enjoy four  prepared speeches of a very high standard, and an absolutely hilarious table topics contest.

This was a competition meeting and the format was slightly different to our regular meetings, we had the prepared speeches first, then a table topic contest, followed by the presentations.

From the President, the Toastmaster of the night, Table topics master, to the contestants and club members, everybody used the opportunity when carrying out their role to throw in a joke. We all felt a very positive vibe that made the night thoroughly enjoyable.

In the prepared speeches, with themes going from doggie sitters, space invaders, extreme adventures to Irish impostors, we had a laugh to remember! The topics session was wonderfully themed for the evening and everyone who took part, both contestants and non-contestant, were in tune with the topic of the meeting.

We were even lectured about sins as well, which makes me remember the words of Charles Frazier, in Cold Mountain, who said: “He tried to name which of the deadly seven might apply, and when he failed he decided to append an eighth, regret.”  So do not regret missing the wonderful experience of visiting our club!

Join us for our next meeting; guest are always very welcome.

Dates for our upcoming meetings can be found at http://galway.toastmastersclubs.org
