Toastmasters and guests were greeted by our President, Declan.
Frances then took over as Toastmaster and introduced
the officers who explained their roles.
The word of the night chosen by our grammarian Sebastian was SANGFROID
which was used a lot during the meeting.
Our topics master Christoffer then ran a very
interesting session. We heard about new
habits during the lock-down from active to just doing nothing. Pint delivery had various pros and cons. There were lots of add-ons which made a
lively session.
Next we were treated to four excellent speeches.
Margaret L told
us about changing to online during the virus close down. Her success resulted
from individual contact with those involved.
Cormac then gave his various experiences of mentorship
both personal and in history. He spoke
of the mentorship value he places on joining Toastmasters and the meetings.
Mary H gave a very insightful talk with slides on the
various intelligences. She ended her talk with a telling cartoon of a group of
varied animals all being taught the same way and a quote by Einstein on the
same theme.
Then Danny told a story about being very reluctant to
take up a holiday he won to Germany. He went and was so thrilled by the
friendship and fun that he became chair of the group on his return. He ended with a funny story of what can go
wrong if you leave inexperienced young lads painting chimneys.
We then had a ten minute break while the evaluators
and speakers went to the break out rooms.
The second half of the meeting was run by Eugene who
introduced the four evaluators who all gave tips for improvement while giving very
positive feedback
Eugene then evaluated the evaluators and give good tips for improvement.
The officers then gave their reports. Pat gave a
creative corner on the Japanese Haiku with examples including ones with
Toastmasters in the first line.
