A really good fleek evening!

Almost becoming a thing of a habit, Galway Toastmasters online meetings Wednesday 29th April was another smashing success!

What Does on fleek Mean? | Slang by Dictionary.comThe newest role held by Eugene entitled ‘Meeting Housekeeper’ whose job is to ‘explain best practice etiquette for online video conferencing meetings’ helped us get sorted! Rob, acting as time keeper, replaced the traditional colored lights with appropriately colored letters from An Post, good stuff! The Grammarian, Cormac, shared the word of the evening “Fleek”! We learnt it means extremely good, stylish – and it got mentioned quite a bit!

Tonight, Pat was the elected Toastmaster, whom introduced Tara as the Topicsmaster of the evening! We started off by imaging what we would do, if the lockdown was lifted right away – what are the first things we would do? Meet family and friend were high on the lists! And watch Mayo games! GAA in general, and leaving certs, were also highly debated!

The first prepared speech was given by Aisling, with a speech named “Typhoid Mary". We were told what typhoid is, and the story from USA in 1906, of an Irish immigrant woman cook named Mary, who stayed in over 26 years in quarantine!

Connecting with a mentorThe second speech of the evening was from Marie, named “Living with your mentors”. Purpose of the speech is how Toastmasters encourages mentors, and how we work with protégées. We learnt about three mentors; by default (parents and siblings), by force (teachers), and by choice (friends and work colleagues). A mentor can help you along your way in life!

Are you the eldest, middle or youngest child? THIS is what it says ...Jenny gave the third speech of the evening, “Being the youngest child”. She shared the good, the bad, and the ugly around being the youngest child; like the rules! The first child makes the rules, the second child is the reason for said rules, and for the youngest child – the rules don’t apply!

The fourth and final speech of the evening was given by Danny, with a title “My inspirational Communicators”, sharing stories from different paths of his life, and speeches from John F Kennedy. Very inspiring and insightful!

Studies, Risks, and Dosage for Inducing Labor With Castor Oil ...
Frances chaired the second half of the meeting and as general evaluator was pleased with the way the meeting ran, with great feedback from all our evaluators to our speakers. Christoffer led the Creative corner, with a small story from the story “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho. “The secret of happiness is to see all the marvels of the world, and never forget the drops of oil on the spoon!”. Our president Declan closed the meeting, and wished everyone a nice evening!

Join us for the next meeting, which is Wednesday 13th May at 8pm – all online!
