Great Expectations

Our president Paul opened the meeting and extended a warm welcome to the many guests in attendance. Cathryn was tonight's Toastmaster and she introduced the officers for the evening.
Jenny was the Topics-master for the evening and she hosted a varied and very lively topics session. The subjects included Galway's friendly city award, rugby World Cup, Google self driving cars, whither Skellig Michael should be a Star Wars location and the journey of Padraic O Conaire.
Tonights meeting varied from the normal of 4 formal speeches in that we had only 3 speeches.
Martin led off the with a CC3 speech entitled Brainwave. Prompted by a personal experience Martin informed us about epilepsy, explaining the different types of seizures. He provided us with a 3 step plan of action should one find themselves in a position where someone has a seizure and needs attention.
Ann presented her CC5 speech entitled Customer Care. Sharing her own career journey Ann told us of her first experience of customer care and the value of this to her business. Consequently Ann places a high value on good customer care in general.
The final speech of the night was a ATM Bronze from Pat entitled Great Expectations. Pat cautioned in his humorous speech, to be careful what you wish for because you might get it.
He spoke of the joy of booking a cheap flight to Copenhagen only to find that accommodation was at an astronomical price, thus perhaps explaining the cheap flight. Nevertheless it was a fun filled family holiday and he returned with the traditional fun gift for his friend.
Following a short break for tea and biscuits the speeches were evaluated by Joseph, Frank and Mike all providing positive feedback to Martin, Ann and Pat.
Cathryn called on the officers to provide their feedback and Aonghus read a poem for his creative corner. Margaret provided the general evaluation of the meeting. The meeting was brought to a close by Paul who encouraged people to volunteer for the upcoming competition at our next meeting. The next meeting will be held on 7th September which will be a competition night. All welcome to attend.
